Keep it, Trap it, Love it

Keep it, Trap it, Love it

Falling into the important, albeit small category of “90s products I wish were still in use (and more importantly, acceptable for me to use)” is everyone’s favorite unisex accessory, the Trapper Keeper.

It didn’t matter if yours featured a freakishly biblical picture of a unicorn, a still image from that creepy show “Beauty and the Beast” (the one with Linda Hamilton, not the Disney animation), or a shot of Michael Jordan flying through the air, they all made a statement about who you were and what you were all about that year. For example, the year mine featured a dolphin I was clearly saying, “hey, I like animals”. Versus the year I went with a solid color (blue), I was saying “hey, this year I will not be defined by the picture on my Trapper Keeper” (the beginning of my independent streak).

This is one 90s trend I’m considering bringing back. According to my teacher-friends, kids now-a-days have their own laptops. Where’s the fun in that? I’d rather have a big piece of pliable plastic with Velcro, convenient side pockets and a photo of Edward Cullen on the front over an ibook any day.
