Livin’ in an Amish Paradise

Livin’ in an Amish Paradise

“Weird Al” Yankovic has worn so many different hats throughout his career - singer, musician, actor, satirist, parodist, songwriter, music producer, accordionist (didn’t know that was a word until now) and TV producer. This crazy guy has been at it in the entertainment biz for a lonnnng time, however is best known for his hilarious parodies of pop hits throughout the past several decades. A Grammy winner three times over (’84, ‘88, ‘03),  Weird Al has sold upwards of 12 million albums - an impressive feat for any artist, but also outdoing every comedy act in history!  Word.

In keeping with the nature of iceicebabies,  below are some of my favorite Weird Al gems from the 90’s.

Amish Paradise (parody of Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise)

Smells like Nirvana (parody of Nirvana’s Smells like Teen Spirit )

Bedrock Anthem (parody of Red Hot Chili Pepper’s Under the Bridge & Give It Away)

Pretty Fly For a Rabbi (parody of Offspring’s Pretty Fly For a White Guy)

Livin’ in the Fridge (parody of Aerosmith’s Livin’ on the Edge)

Gump (parody of The President’s of the United States of America’s Lump)

It’s All About the Pentiums (parody of P. Diddy’s It’s All About the Benjamins)

i definitely applaud weird al for being able to make an entire career based on parodying other songs.all the haters out there can question is ability as an artist, but he’s made some good money making dumb jokes that we could think of after a good joint. it’s a shame he spent his entire fortune on hawaiian shirts.

Also, a lot of people don’t realize that on many of his albums, a little more than half of the songs are parodies, and the rest are original compositions. Some of his best songs are the ones he wrote himself, without the parody. He doesn’t even have to sing to put out a good song. See “Fun Zone” from the UHF soundtrack. No words, just good music.
