Coming off a glorious decade where Jane Fonda aerobicized like whoa and Olivia Newton-John sang about getting physical in leg warmers and sweatbands, the 90’s brought out some unique fitness fads and also carried on the legacy of old ones by adding a new twist. Prerequisites included looking absolutely ridiculous while doing it and an instructor who was seemingly on some form of speed.

Tae Bo

Billy Blanks is a total nutcase. I mean, what is he like when he’s not kicking the crap out of air? Also, I desperately need me a pair of his work out shorts - they exude “tough guy” with a hint of jungle flair.

Jazzercise

Who is Judi Sheppard Misset and what kind of uppers was she on? This video will seriously change your life. I know it’s from the 80s, but the popularity of jazzercise continued well into 90’s so it counts. (And apparently is still kickin’ in the 2000’s - Thanks Andrew)

Aerobics

There was a global aerobics competitions and I didn’t know about it?! What a fantastic idea. The American Gladiator spin on their uniforms is sweet.

8 Minute Abs

These tapes were quite the phenomenon in the mid-90’s. We all knew back then that any more than 8 minutes was obviously a waste of time.
