Top Young Ninjas Of The 90s

Top Young Ninjas Of The 90s

Growing up in the 90s, some of my favorite movies were action flicks made for kids.  Looking back at the kid action genre, the fighting is laughable and the plots are often ridiculous, but what kid didn’t like a good young ninja fantasy?  Below are the best of the 90s junior bad asses:

The 3 Ninjas

Rocky loves, Em-uh-lee.  Rocky loves, Em-uh-lee!  Who can forget that chant from the 90s ninja franchise 3 Ninjas?  The series featured Rocky, Colt, and Tum Tum as they learn sweet ninja skills from Grandpa Mori and use them to fight bad guys.  Check out this scene where bullies led by a young Vanilla Ice lookalike attempt to steal the 3 Ninjas’ bikes.  Rocky kicks some ass and is assisted by some great sound effects.

Johnny from Surf Ninjas

Ernie Reyes Jr. starred as Johnny, the lone believable ninja in this film also featuring, Rob Schneider (???), Kelly Hu, Tone Loc, and Nicolas Cowan.  When Johnny and his buddy realize they are crown princes of an Asian kingdom, they begin an adventure to dethrone the evil ruler of their kingdom.  Woo!  Check out Johnny in this straight-up 90s fight scene:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael are the life-sized crime fighting turtles who are trained by their large rat sensei, Master Splinter. Enjoy this extended flashback, the first 10 minutes of the 1990 movie:

Also check out Raphael fighting me, Casey Jones.

The Power Rangers

Go Go Power Rangers!  Everybody’s favorite after school ninja show, the Power Rangers followed a group of teens that could morph into superheroes who save the world from evil alien forces.  I always thought the White Ranger was so awesome.  Here’s the original intro to the show, when there were only 5 rangers:

So the black guy is the black ranger?  Of course.

Rufio from Hook

The Lost Boys’ base in Neverland was the ultimate fantasy fort for any kid.  Before old Peter Pan showed up to reclaim his throne, the kids were led by Rufio, a spikey red-haired sword-toting super-cool punk.  I admit that it’s debatable how much of a ninja he is, but it’s my list so shut up.  Roo-fee-oh, Roo-fee-oh, Roo-fee-oh!

Barry Gabrewski from Sidekicks

Jonathan Brandis starred as a kid who daydreams about fighting alongside his hero Chuck Norris, a dream that eventually comes true! Watch as an imaginary Chuck Norris helps Barry climb the rope in gym class, while barely exerting any effort.

Yes, that’s Winnie Cooper cheering him on.

Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad

This show was pretty much a clone of Power Rangers that featured Joey (Whoa) Lawrence’s younger brother Matthew as a kid that fights evil monsters in cyberspace.
