Best Kids Shows

Last night this guy on NPR was talking about how memorable kids shows like icarly and Drake and Josh are these days. So I started thinking… what shows do I remember most from the 90’s. What made them stick out from the rest. Without doing any research, I summoned my mind grapes to make my top 5 most memorable shows growing up.

5. California Dreams (1992 - 1997)

Awesome. For those who don’t remember, this is the one where the California high schoolers are in a band that plays surf / rock music. I remember when Tiffany took steroids because she was too weak to make the volleyball team. She started getting these roid rages and pissing people off. And let’s face it, sometimes you have to make some sacrifices to make the volleyball team in life. And when you get caught taking steroids for “volleyball” and suspended its better for you just admit your mistakes, apologize to everyone you hurt, and never play baseball again. I think one of the kids had a leather jacket and drove a motercycle. Kindof like the modern day fonze, but I could be wrong.

4. Clarissa Explains it All (1991- 1994)

Great show. A perfect snapshot of a typical american teen growing up. I mean, who didnt have a lizard named elvis, a pubescent boy creeping into our bedrooms on a ladder, an impossibly dorky younger brother, and the computer programming knowledge to design video games that will solve all your problems in about 2 minutes.

3. Salute Your Shorts (1991 - 1993)

Whole cast (Singing): Camp Onowana… We hold you in our hearts…. And when we think about you…  it makes us want to

Donkey Lips: Fart!

Me: HAHAHAHAHA! I love it. That show was unreal. They had a capture the flag game with water baloons that I still think would be fun as hell. Yes… I know… Hey Dude was also awesome, but the two shows were so similar that I had to pick one. Case in point, Hey Dude had a capture the flag game that also looked fun as hell.

2. Are You Afraid Of The Dark (1991 - 1996)

I think I might of wet the bed after watching this show one saturday night. The Clown episode is still stuck in my head. The midnight society was was group of unruly dudes. I mean… think about it…. their parents let them go out to the woods at night, make a fire, and tell ghost stories to each other. I still don’t think i would be responsible enough, as a human being, to tend to a fire. Submitted for your approval… I think I just wet my shorts.

1. Boy Meets World (1993-2000)

Admit it guys… We all had huge crushes on Topanga after she came back that summer before eigth grade. Remember when she was gonna move to Pittsburgh??? Remember how you cried and ate an entire bucket of icecream praying for something to happen? Remember when she got into Yale and almost left Cory behind? Remember when Cory got her ice cream at Chubbys when she had mono? Remember when she ate all that ice cream and wasn’t that hot for a season or two?

Man… Good times… Good thing Mr. Feeny was always around to be their teacher/next door neihbor/college professor depending on their agegroup.

I defy you to name a better show of the 90’s than Boy Meets World.
