Bet You Forgot About This Michael Jackson Collaboration

Since the tragic news of MJ’s death last week, it’s been tough to escape the coverage. Marathon video fests on MTV, tributes on all of the major networks and just about every magazine has him on the cover. Not to be outdone, Corey Haim (former “friend” of the deceased) dressed up like him for a few days to “honor” his memory.

I’ll let that sink in.

To be clear, Corey has nothing to do with this post, I just can’t pass up an opportunity to mention him.

What this post IS about is one of the music videos not mentioned in any of the tribute pieces.

Remember SWV? Sister’s With Voices? They had a hit back in the early 90s that used the hook from Michael’s classic “Human Nature”.

Like all respectable pink casio-owners, I had all of their cassingles. Killer hits like “Weak” and “I’m So Into You” got me through some really tough junior high break ups.

This particular song ain’t half bad - relatively speaking anyway. But the video - as with all 90s videos - is a GEM. Unfortunately, Michael does not make a cameo, but he’s there in spirit.

Couple points to note:

  • Love - beyond words - the consistent matching ensembles. Particularly the denim number. They’re like the female Boyz II Men.
  • Also appreciate the dedication to the horse theme as displayed by the wardrobe change.
  • Not clear on why they’re fishing - with nets no less.
  • Does the one girl really play the trumpet?

Little known fact: The guy saying “SWV” in the background is Pharell. Pre-N.E.R.D fame.

Enjoy this hot jam. RIP Michael. And SWV.

That is Corey Feldman, not Corey Haim.

In addition, this is not a collaboration, it’s a sample.

That would be like saying MJ collaborated on Good Life with Kanye West.
