Webster’s defines “outfit” as follows:
“The act of fitting out or equipping (for a voyage or an expedition)”
While my “voyages” back in the early 90s were to after school dances and boy/girl basement parties, they absolutely required the right “equipping”.
There were oh-so-many gems back in the day, but if I had to highlight only one, it would be the following ensemble that I saved for VSOs (Very Special Occasions):
Felt, no-breathe material with “structured” shoulders. A close cousin to the late 80s show-stopper, shoulder pads. (Note: Image below is not quite right, but it’s pretty close).

You remember bodysuits, right? Essentially cotton leotards that snapped at the crotch and clung to your body like saran wrap. Awesome. Lots of layers going on.

God bless the folks at William Rast, Citizens of Humany, etc for coming along and creating jeans that actually flatter.

Because shoes that end at the ankle are super-flattering. Especially when they feature a not not quite pointy, not quite square toe.

All style.

If you were blessed and skipped this torture, I wish upon you a set of dentures at a young age. It’s only fair.

I don’t recall having any particularly memorable voyages and/or expeditions in the above outfit. But I thought I was all that. And really, that’s all that matters.
