The NES came out in ‘85 and The Fresh Prince of Bel-air ran in ‘90 and it was intentionally retro/ridiculous.
If you want the 90’s you need the Playstation, Nirvana posters, old flannel shirts, bad stringy hair, combat boots, just enough beard stubble to look like you don’t care (also to look like a jackass), and maybe a black trench coat or an old pair of torn up jeans.
I agree with the earlier comment. I’d say if we was playing a Sega Genesis (who can forget those classic “Sega!” commercials) it would be a bit more accurate. I’d call this one 1988/9 in one picture.
Also, I’m pretty sure the CD longbox was on the way out by 1991.
those of you boo-hooing about when it came out. What is popular when is not characterized by WHEN it first appeared but by when it was widely accepted and familiar. So for me? This very much represents the early to mid 90’s and apparently for many others as well.

The 90s will be the true test that all decades can become retro chic in 20-30 years. Personally I hope not. I lived it once and that was plenty.

I miss the 90’s :((((

I’m sorry, but this was not the 90’s.

You fail, please try again.

i think this rap video about early 90s Nickelodeon shows and Ecto Cooler does a much better job of capturing that old school essence…

90s?
More like the 80s. The SNES came out in 1991, and the n64 was available in 1996. Hammer pants and the original Nintendo are 80s Hallmarks.
In two words: Decade Fail.
